CCAR-P or CCDV-F?
Both are Claude certifications, but they are written for different people. The guides are explicit about who each one excludes, which is usually the fastest way to rule one out.
CCAR-P
Mid- to senior-level professionals who design, build and deliver production AI systems on Claude.
CCDV-F
Technical professionals who build, integrate and ship production-grade AI solutions on Claude.
Side by side
| CCAR-P | CCDV-F | |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 63 | 53 |
| Time limit | 120 min | 120 min |
| Domains | 7 | 8 |
| Exam fee | $175 | $125 |
| Pass mark | 720 | 720 |
| Scenario-based | No | No |
Both are scored on the same 100–1000 scale and stay valid for 12 months. A failed attempt means waiting 14 days before the first retake, and the whole programme allows 4 attempts per rolling year.
How to rule one out
CCAR-P is not for Entry-level developers, casual users of Claude-based applications, and anyone without experience designing end-to-end AI systems.
CCDV-F is not for Non-technical or casual users of Claude-based applications, anyone without hands-on software development experience, and roles limited to prompt writing without broader application development responsibility.
CCAR-P is the more advanced sitting of the two. Note that the guides do not require the lower one first — neither certification is a prerequisite for the other, so you can sit whichever matches the work you actually do.
Where they overlap
Both blueprints cover 1 common subject:
- context engineering
Shared subject does not mean shared difficulty. The same topic is tested at the depth each exam's audience works at, so preparation for one is not preparation for the other.
